The Field Engineer I assists the Project Engineer as a technical source of information for the project, responding to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders. The role helps prepare change orders, RFIs, meeting minutes, and submittals, and maintains effective, professional working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. The Field Engineer position has three progression steps—I, II, and Senior—with Step I described as the entry level for individuals with minimal experience in the position. The Field Engineer supports project planning and execution, project documentation, quality management, safety, risk management, cost control, and field operations. Depending on the project, duties may also include BIM coordination, LEED documentation, digital record drawings, layout, and quantity tracking. The role provides support to superintendents and helps resolve field problems. This is an entry-level position that normally requires a four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical or field experience, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office. The work involves frequent interaction with others and may require wearing personal protective equipment, climbing, handling objects, and sitting, standing, or walking during a shift.
