About The Position

The Field Engineer Gr. 3 designation applies to employees who possess professional knowledge and aptitude for creative thinking in specific engineering fields (electrical, electronic, mechanical, chemical, civil, heating and ventilation, or structural). Their activities are related to engineering construction, operation, or maintenance assignments, or other technical work within the Company. Field Engineers must effectively coordinate their work with others, including engineers, personnel from other departments, representatives from consulting firms, municipalities, other utilities, manufacturers, customers, and contractors. Familiarity with applicable rules and procedures from other departments, such as "Permit" procedures, Tagging procedures, Safety Rules and procedures, and System Operating Department routines, is essential for certain activities. The Field Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive performance of work, ensuring that all proper tools, equipment, and materials are specified for job assignments. This position is primarily field-based, involving work in Electrical Substations and Electrical Network Vaults. Key responsibilities include leading and performing preventative and corrective electrical maintenance and testing, as well as providing technical support to Operator Mechanics engaged in electrical maintenance and substation construction. Candidates are expected to be self-directed learners, capable of investigating problems and collaborating with equipment manufacturers to resolve issues and perform repairs. While training is provided for safety and electrical fundamentals, an aptitude for research and for repairing electrical controls and associated equipment is considered beneficial.

Requirements

• Engineering education as evidenced by a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Science (BSECE) or a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Technology (BSET).

Responsibilities

• Conduct work activities with regard to the work of others such as engineers or others working on the same projects; personnel of other departments; representatives of consulting engineering firms, municipalities, other utilities, manufacturers, customers, contractors; and contractors’ employees engaged in related activities.
• Acquire familiarity with any applicable rules and procedures established by other departments such as “Permit” procedures, Tagging procedures, Safety Rules and procedures, System Operating Department routines, etc.
• Ensure the safe, efficient, and productive performance of the work.
• Specify all proper tools, equipment, and material for job assignments.
• Lead and perform preventative and corrective electrical maintenance and testing.
• Provide technical support for Operator Mechanics performing electrical maintenance and substation construction.
• Investigate problems and work with equipment manufacturers to resolve issues and make repairs.
• Respond to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs as part of the role, which may include an Emergency Restoration assignment outside of normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
