About The Position

The Outreach Team is a national field firm partnering with organizations to solve societal problems and build resources for impact. They are hiring Field Directors to manage offices in Lansing, MI, focusing on recruiting, training, and managing local canvassers for reproductive rights campaigns. The Field Director will lead by example by canvassing themselves, communicate goals, manage reporting, and build an office from the ground up. The role involves managing canvassers and Team Leads, reporting to the Lead Director. The company's mission is to ensure healthy communities where people can make decisions about their reproductive health care, leading to greater control over their economic security and well-being.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team
  • Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
  • Track record of equity and inclusion
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
  • Familiarity with VAN and MiniVAN
  • Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
  • Facilitation experience
  • Local knowledge/experience
  • Experience in and/or passion for reproductive rights

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 40–60 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to voters about reproductive rights
  • Canvass yourself several days a week to train staff and drive office goals
  • Set goals and hold staff accountable to them
  • Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff
  • Identify, promote, and train a leadership team
  • Build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
  • Develop strategic plans to reach targeted voters in assigned locations
  • Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials
