About The Position

We are seeking a Field Automation Tech/Programmer to join our team in Midland, TX. This full-time role involves a significant amount of field work, approximately 50% of the time, performing service calls on various equipment and brands. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of automation software and hardware, possess strong programming skills, and be comfortable with networking and data collection technologies. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining PLC and HMI programs, developing data collection software, managing edge devices, and ensuring the smooth operation of automation systems. This role also requires excellent communication skills, a willingness to learn and adapt, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call rotations.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of Allen-Bradley’s Studio Suite including RS500, RS5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk ME Suite, CCW, and Drive Executive.
  • Ability to create a new PLC program/HMI Program from scratch based upon conversations and continued communications.
  • Basic programming skills in Python, Java, HTML, and Adobe; ability to read and troubleshoot these languages.
  • Experience with data collection and signaling: MQTT, 4-20mA, 0-10v, Modbus, Ethernet/IP.
  • Knowledge of Cradlepoint/Sierra Wireless/Pepwave cellular modems.
  • General serial communication knowledge including the theory/basic knowledge of ModBus protocol, Ethernet/IP protocol, and Ethernet.
  • General networking design and implementation of multiple secure wireless radio systems including full deployment of IP/Mac addressing. Familiarity with port forwards, VPNs, and local networks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Willingness to spend at least 50% of time in the field performing service calls.
  • Willingness to take on-call at least once a month.
  • Willingness to learn new products and report the advantages/disadvantages of them.
  • Ability to interact with other contractors and clients without issue.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to work long days/weekends when asked.

Nice To Haves

  • Writing Python code from scratch is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create new PLC/HMI programs from scratch based on client discussions.
  • Update and maintain Python data collection software for multiple devices.
  • Manage the deployment of edge devices (cellular modems) and ensure their working order.
  • Perform service calls on various lines of equipment and multiple brands, spending at least 50% of time in the field.
  • Take on-call duties at least once a month.
  • Learn new products and report on their advantages/disadvantages.
  • Interact with other contractors and clients professionally.
  • Design and implement secure wireless radio systems, including IP/Mac addressing, port forwards, VPNs, and local networks.
  • Troubleshoot Python, Java, HTML, and Adobe code.
