About The Position

The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a dedicated and motivated Field Associate to join our team at our South Mountain Campus and work a schedule of either Wednesday - Saturday, 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM, or Saturday - Tuesday, 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The Field Associate will provide team support to Emergency Animal Medical Technicians and Animal Cruelty Investigators in and out of the field, particularly for large-scale intakes and animal cruelty cases. They will champion the legal release of protective custody animals in our care in a timely manner. They will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Six months to a year in animal handling and knowledge of species and breeds.
  • Must be able to safely and humanely handle injured and aggressive animals.
  • Must have knowledge of map reading and directions.
  • Must possess good customer service skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to resolve conflict.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record and ability to pass drug and background screening to be insured as an AHS driver.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and follow up on the legal release of protective custody animals in a timely manner, communicate with city courts, process court paperwork.
  • Assist EAMTs in the field with the capture and transport of animals, which may include large-scale intakes, complex rescues, and sick/injured animals related to animal cruelty cases.
  • Assist EAMTs with the animal intake process including locating or cleaning open kennels, collaring and vaccinations, photographing and entering all pertinent information into AHS database.
  • Assist the team by responding as needed to field owner surrender appointments and transporting animals to and from emergency animal clinics.
  • Behavior assessments/handling on scene and during transport using the appropriate use of restraint, with an emphasis on soft handling techniques.
  • Responsible for checking humane traps and coordinating drop off and pick-ups.
  • Cross train in Field Dispatch, be prepared to cover full shifts when needed.
  • Assist the animal care team as needed with the daily care of protective custody animals for large-scale intakes.
