Field Archaeologist - On-call (Los Angeles Area)
About The Position
ICF is seeking On-Call (Temporary) Archaeologists based in the Los Angeles area to assist senior archaeologists primarily in fieldwork. Tasks include survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring. Other duties may involve laboratory analysis, background research, report preparation assistance, and other assigned tasks. This role requires excellent field skills, the ability to identify pre-contract and historic-period artifacts, and meticulous field note-taking. Travel for up to 10 days may be required, and work will be conducted outdoors in various weather conditions. On-Call employees are scheduled for work as hours become available, with the flexibility to accept or refuse assignments. They may also work on concurrent projects outside of ICF, provided there is no conflict of interest.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
- Valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check
- Ability to identify precontract and historic-period artifacts
- Ability to take detailed field notes
- Ability to conduct field visits at locations throughout Southern California
- Background in precontact or historic-period archaeology is required
Nice To Haves
- Field experience in Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties
- Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with ICF senior staff and construction personnel
- Knowledge and familiarity with computers and smart devices
- Active 40-hour HAZWOPER training
- Experience working with and communicating with construction crews
