About The Position

ICF is seeking On-Call (Temporary) Archaeologists based in the Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area, or Northern California. The role involves assisting senior archaeologists primarily in fieldwork, including survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring. Other duties may include laboratory analysis, background research, report preparation assistance, and other assigned tasks. This position requires excellent field skills, the ability to identify pre-contact and historic-period artifacts, and meticulous field note-taking. Travel for up to 10 days may be required, and work will be conducted outdoors in various weather conditions. On-Call employment at ICF is project-specific or seasonal, with work hours scheduled as they become available, and employees have the flexibility to accept or decline assignments. On-Call employees can also work on concurrent projects outside of ICF, provided there is no conflict of interest.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
  • 1+ years of field experience in archaeological monitoring and survey.
  • Valid driver's license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.

  • Field experience in northern and central California.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with ICF senior staff and construction personnel.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with computers and smart devices.
  • Background in precontact or historic-period archaeology.
  • Ability to conduct field visits at locations throughout northern and central California.
  • Cross training in paleontological monitoring.
  • Mission-era experience or training.
  • Osteology experience or training.
  • Active 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
