About The Position

Westmag, the American manufacturer of drone motors and robot actuators, is seeking a Field Applications Engineer. This role involves owning the technical relationship with Westmag’s drone OEM customers, focusing on design integration, duty-cycle changes, application engineering, and end-of-line validation correlation. The position reports to the Commercial Team and collaborates closely with Motor Design. Westmag designs and manufactures its products in South San Francisco, aiming to build and scale in the U.S. for the global market, and is currently ramping production to serve leading drone and robot companies.

Requirements

  • BSEE, BSME, or equivalent technical degree.
  • 5+ years of field/applications engineering or customer-engineering experience at a motor, sensor, drive, or actuator company.
  • Strong fundamentals in electric-motor application (KV, torque, thermal, efficiency curves).
  • Familiarity with motor control, VFD, or inverter integration at the customer-system level.
  • Customer-facing confidence, both written and verbal, at the engineer-to-engineer level.
  • Willingness to spend significant time on customer sites (up to 40% travel).
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience supporting drone, robotics, or aerospace OEM customers.
  • Background combining FAE work with end-of-line / dynamometer test correlation.
  • Experience authoring application notes and technical white papers.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical relationship with Westmag's drone OEM customers.
  • Address spec interpretation, application-engineering questions, and duty-cycle and thermal trade-offs.
  • Manage customer-witnessed test programs for new motor variants, correlating them against Westmag's end-of-line validation data.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for field issues, including triage, escalation to design or quality teams, and customer follow-through.
  • Act as the engineering voice during early-stage technical engagements with prospective drone OEMs, participating in BD calls and technical due diligence.
  • Develop app-note and reference-design content for the drone-motor product family.
