The Fiber Splicing Technician terminates fiber optic cables to expand telecommunications networks into new areas or replace existing lines, troubleshoots and maintains networks to resolve signal problems, and supports the outside plant (OSP) construction team with cable placement and locating existing cable and duct. The technician performs cable installation, construction, maintenance, and repair; identifies and repairs cable faults; tests end-to-end service provisioning; verifies terminations; and reviews surveys, discrepancy reports, drawings, and manuals. The role requires knowledge of splice activities, cable and safety testing equipment, and cable construction equipment, as well as maintaining project records and pursuing work-related training and certifications. Safety and quality requirements must be upheld at all times.
