About The Position

A Fiber Splicer installs, terminates, tests, and repairs fiber optic cables for commercial electronic security and low-voltage networks. This role requires expertise in both single and ribbon fiber splicing, interpreting system blueprints, and using specialized equipment to ensure secure, high-speed data transmission.

Requirements

  • Typically requires 1 to 3+ years of hands-on experience in fiber splicing, structured cabling, or related low-voltage construction.
  • Deep understanding of fiber optic theory (color codes, single/multi-mode fibers) and proficiency in using cleavers, strippers, and fusion splicers.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, distinguishing color codes, and working in varied environments including data centers, construction sites, and aerial or underground spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • BICSI certifications (such as Installer 2 Fiber) and OSHA training (10 or 30) are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, strip, and accurately splice fiber optic strands using both fusion and mechanical techniques in Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) environments.
  • Operate advanced diagnostic tools such as OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers) and optical power meters to ensure optimal signal quality and locate faults.
  • Interpret schematics, floor plans, and splice matrices to execute precise cable routing and connections.
  • Maintain splice enclosures, patch panels, and update fiber documentation upon project completion.
