About The Position

The Fiber Optics Teacher is responsible for providing quality instruction that meets the needs of the student in the trade areas of basic adult education and GED standards. Additionally, to meet the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements.

Requirements

  • Ability to engage students in one-on-one teaching.
  • Ability to work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/Lab environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education.
  • Working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs.
  • Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories.
  • Demonstrate competency in the related field of current trade licensure.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the trade area.
  • Ability to supervise adult inmates in a classroom/lab environment in a correctional facility.
  • Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom management.
  • Knowledge of the DOC institutional policies and procedures and policies governing correctional education.
  • Experience and knowledge in Fiber Optics and/or education, and/or corrections and/or related field.
  • Successful experience in fiber optics, corrections or related field.
  • Five years experience in the related trade/field.
  • Must have a Industrial/Technical Professional License/Certification in the relevant trade area/field.
  • Must have a teaching certificate by the Department of Education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in correctional education classroom management will be preferred.
