About The Position

Oversee and coordinate the maintenance, construction and repair of the regional fiber optic system. Responsible for communicating with internal and external stakeholders, manage the relationship with contractors, customers, and service providers on new and existing projects, ensuring the fiber optic network is reliable, resilient, and within standards and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current valid Driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy
  • Four or more years of experience as a fiber technician or related position
  • Experience meeting and interacting with contractors and customers
  • Experience with fiber outside plant and inside plant construction and related materials
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assigned tasks
  • Knowledge of fiber of optic technologies, terminology, and best practices
  • Ability to differentiate cable colors and read splice diagrams
  • Ability to project manage, monitor tasks and costs, and effectively communicate progress to stakeholders and customers
  • Ability to troubleshoot and test fiber optics, including experience using fusion splicer, OTDR, power meter and traffic identifier
  • Knowledge and proficient in using Microsoft office products, including Visio

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to complete ArcFM Fiber Manager training within the first year of employment
  • Current fiber installer certification
  • Proficient in using ArcFM Fiber Manager GIS software
  • Six or more years’ experience with fiber optic construction, engineering, or design
  • Project management experience

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and reviews contractor work as it relates to connecting customers to the fiber optic system, new construction, repairs, and service restoration
  • Provide internal inside plant support to other departments such as troubleshooting, identification, patching, cross-connecting, and labeling of internal fiber facilities
  • Coordinates, communicates, and schedules all ISP and OSP work with internal and external customers, contractors, and owner communities
  • Attend and host project and technical meetings to review project progress, timelines, and budgets
  • Creates and manages work orders relating to construction, maintenance and repair projects
  • Procures materials for projects and ensure materials arrive to meet the needs of projects; assist contractors and vendors with inventory staging, ordering, and delivery
  • Maintains the fiber optic system documentation to ensure system data is updated and consistent with the current fiber optic system configuration
  • Meets with customers and contractors to gather requirements to determine project design and scope of work
  • Participates in the design of fiber optic solutions including material specifications, fiber connectivity, fiber network design, and splice plans
  • Schedules traffic control and vegetation mitigation as needed
  • May occasionally need to respond to off-hour outages or emergencies
  • Assists with budgeting of projects and monitors costs to ensure they are within budget
  • Assists customers and contractors with fiber identification, distances and performance metrics with applicable tools such as an OTDR, red light, and power meter
  • Assists with fiber use agreements, infrastructure audits, internal and external fiber customer support
  • Performs other duties as assigned
