About The Position

The Fiber Optic Network Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic infrastructure and telecommunications network equipment that support enterprise connectivity and communications. This role focuses primarily on fiber optic networks, structured cabling, and IP-based network infrastructure while also supporting managed WiFi solutions and RF communication systems as business needs require. The ideal candidate has strong experience with fiber optic installation, testing, splicing, and network infrastructure, along with a solid understanding of telecommunications construction and IP networking. Experience with managed WiFi platforms systems is preferred. The successful candidate is a motivated problem solver who enjoys learning new technologies and delivering high-quality solutions in both office and field environments. Candidate must be able to reliably commute to Grand Teton National Park or Yellowstone National Park within one hour May-November. Housing may be arranged.

Requirements

  • Associate degree, technical school certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Experience with structured cabling (Cat5e/Cat6) and inside/outside plant construction.
  • Experience deploying, configuring, or supporting managed WiFi solutions, wireless access points, controllers, and enterprise wireless networks.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, switching, routing, VLANs, and PoE.
  • Basic understanding of telecommunications infrastructure and IP-based communications.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Ability to climb ladders (over 6 feet) and work at various heights.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required (approximately 50-75%); spending 3-5 days per week in the parks.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications post-hire as required for the role.
  • Ability to pass and maintain compliance with federal background check and drug-free workplace requirements.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency outages within 4 hours when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting fiber optic, telecommunications, network infrastructure, or managed WiFi environments preferred.
  • Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting managed WiFi environments.
  • Experience with enterprise wireless access points, wireless controllers, and cloud-managed networking platforms.
  • Working knowledge of switching, routing, VLANs, PoE, DHCP, DNS, and TCP/IP networking.
  • Experience with networking platforms such as Cisco Meraki, Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus, Juniper Mist, Ubiquiti, Extreme Networks, or similar technologies.
  • Cisco CCNA or other networking certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, splice, test, maintain, and troubleshoot inside and outside plant fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Perform fiber optic testing using OTDRs, power meters, fusion splicers, and other industry-standard equipment.
  • Install, terminate, certify, and troubleshoot Cat5e/Cat6 structured cabling systems.
  • Analyze and resolve fiber optic network performance issues.
  • Install, configure, provision, and support telecommunications and network infrastructure equipment.
  • Support Layer 1 and Layer 2 network connectivity and assist with IP-based communications infrastructure.
  • Perform underground cable locating, cable replacement, and preventative maintenance.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, fiber routing documentation, splice diagrams, and network schematics.
  • Coordinate construction activities with contractors, utilities, customers, and service providers.
  • Manage telecommunications infrastructure projects including: Project scheduling and coordination, Stakeholder communication, Resource planning, Material procurement and logistics, Contractor oversight, RFI and change order management, As-built documentation and red-line drawings, Site documentation and reporting, Permit, badge, and site access coordination, Equipment inventory and infrastructure tracking.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, deployment, and support of managed WiFi solutions.
  • Configure and troubleshoot wireless access points, controllers, network switches, and related infrastructure.
  • Support wireless network optimization, coverage validation, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Assist with VLAN configuration, PoE deployments, switching, routing, and IP-based network connectivity.
  • Able to work Switches, Access points, fiber splicing, CAT6 terminations and firewalls.
  • Support enterprise network infrastructure and customer connectivity solutions.
