About The Position

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is seeking a Fellow, Veteran Engagement for their Chicago office. This is a full-time, two-year term position, responsible for designing unique models to support Veteran hiring in non-clinical health care roles. The role supports AHA member hospitals and health systems in creating solutions that increase the number of Veterans in the health care workforce in both clinical and non-clinical capacities. The Fellow will identify successful approaches, develop resources, tools, and practices that address this crucial workforce need and opportunity, with particular attention to the development of effective models in rural communities and with hospitals of varying size and scope. The position also involves evaluating and communicating the impact of the program to both internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public health, health administration, human resources or related field
  • 5+ years Experience working with Veterans, military personnel, or military transition programs
  • Experience as a Veteran
  • Strong interest in or knowledge of health care industry, particularly hospitals and health systems
  • Highly motivated with creative problem-solving ability and a passion for workforce innovation
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and project management skills
  • Advanced relationship building and collaboration skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to handle multiple initiatives, change priorities when necessary and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in research, synthesis and analysis of complex information and data
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on barriers and opportunities for Veterans in securing health care roles.
  • Collaborate with Atlas Health Foundation and AHA Funded Partnerships division to identify opportunities and develop proposals to obtain corporate sponsorship for this work.
  • Collaborate with AHA members to identify roles which could be filled, sometimes with additional on-the-job training, by Veterans.
  • Work with Veteran groups and community groups to identify Veteran skills of most applicability to health care workforce needs.
  • Design comprehensive resources, including toolkits, training modules, and policy recommendations, to assist health care organizations in recruiting and retaining Veterans.
  • Identify and recruit members to participate in pilot programs, document successes and lessons learned from the pilot programs and scale the pilot programs extensively.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies and Veteran organizations to enhance efforts.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of developed resources on the number of Veterans joining the health care workforce.
  • Prepare reports, case studies, and presentations to share findings and outcomes with AHA leadership and state association executives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
