Federal Credits and Incentives Tax Intern - Summer 2027
About The Position
As a member of RSM’s CIM group, working specifically with Federal Credits and Incentives (FCI), the intern supports tax planning and research related to the Research and Development (R&D) credit and other federal credits and incentives. The role focuses on technical and quality expertise and excellent client service. Interns help deliver multiple engagements, develop an understanding of clients’ businesses, and maintain competency through continuing education and additional professional certifications. The position requires travel to assigned client locations and access to reliable transportation. RSM roles are generally hybrid, with team members aligned to an office and meeting in person when it best supports clients, teams, development, or relationship-building; some roles may be virtual or primarily on-site depending on role requirements, team priorities, and client needs.
Requirements
- Complete at least 90 credit hours.
- Be working toward a B.A. or B.S. degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university.
- Accounting major.
- Have access to and the ability to arrange for reliable transportation to assigned client locations.
Nice To Haves
- A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work effectively on a team.
- Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with tax planning and research related to the R&D credit and other federal credits and incentives.
- Assist with multiple projects simultaneously, including client interviews, computations, analysis, data gathering, and coordination of resources.
- Assist with drafting opinion letters and other technical memoranda.
- Develop an understanding of clients’ businesses.
- Help drive the success of multiple R&D or federal credits engagements.
- Maintain competency through continuing education and obtaining additional professional certifications.
- Travel to assigned client locations.
