About The Position

Environment America is hiring a Federal Campaigns Associate to work on our federal campaigns to protect the natural world. Bees are dying, and development, drilling, pesticides, and climate change are taking their toll on all of America’s wildlife. Our federal campaigns associate will build support across the country and across the political spectrum to restore and protect habitat for all wildlife. This position requires excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to oversee significant projects.

Requirements

  • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to travel regularly.
  • Motivated to work when needed, which may sometimes be in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Passion for the environment and using the power of grassroots organizing to win campaigns.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Top-notch writing and public speaking skills.
  • An eagerness to learn.
  • Organizing experience, including building campus or community groups.

Nice To Haves

  • Training on advocacy and organizing skills is provided.
  • Oversight by an experienced advocate is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Build powerful coalitions by reaching out to a broad range of organizations and affected constituency groups across the political spectrum to demonstrate support for campaign goals.
  • Earn traditional media and social media attention by organizing news conferences, writing opinion pieces, and building a social media following.
  • Organize events and work with volunteers, including webinars, community events, and public meetings, and recruit organizations and members of the public to attend and participate.
  • Lobby elected officials by meeting with federal decision makers, using built support to help line up votes for critical votes, and organizing/executing federal lobby day events with students and staff.
  • Educate and mobilize public support through online and in-person outreach on issues and ways to get involved.
  • Research and write reports by cataloging and analyzing data relevant to issues and policy proposals to influence public debate and earn media attention.
  • Recruit new people to the team by helping to build the team through recruiting volunteers, interns, and full-time staff.
  • Run a grassroots campaign office each summer, knocking on doors to raise money, build the organization and membership, and build grassroots support. Responsibilities include meeting fundraising goals and managing a team of paid staff. Flexibility to move to a different office location for the summer is required.
  • Take part in organizational projects and trainings, potentially helping other teams on priority campaigns and tactics, and traveling for regional and national trainings and other projects as needed. This is not a standard "9-5" position.
