About The Position

The Wall Street Journal Features & WSJ. Magazine internship offers an unparalleled opportunity for college juniors to gain practical work experience in our award-winning newsrooms in New York with mentorship and tailored training sessions. Graduate students enrolled in a degree program by the application deadline – October 31 – who are returning to school in the fall are also eligible to apply. We are looking for ambitious students who think first, foremost and always about the audience and are able to work independently under deadline pressure. You don’t need to be a business or economics expert, but a commitment to high journalistic standards and audience thinking are a must. You will work closely with various departments within the Features department, including daily digital, four weekly print sections, our monthly magazine, photography, design and research.

Requirements

• Completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional magazine or newspaper, or published exceptional work with a campus publication or as a freelancer.
• A demonstrated interest in features about consumer trends, culture, entertainment, technology and more.
• Sharp instincts for feature and lifestyle coverage and an interest in and appreciation for photography and design.
• Dedication to high journalistic standards and audience-first thinking.
• Excellent writing and reporting skills and an ability to transform observations into story ideas backed by data and original reporting.

Nice To Haves

• A familiarity with social-media platforms and web analytics is beneficial.
