About The Position

Instruct high school juniors and seniors in skills and knowledge leading to entry-level employment or further education in Fashion Merchandising & Management occupations. In-depth instruction will include theory and application of retail merchandising and marketing in the fashion industry. The instructor will work closely with the Cascadia Technical Academy administrative staff and the program advisory committee to continually upgrade the program curriculum and skills competencies (outcomes) needed by the students for employment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six years of fashion merchandising and retail management experience.
  • Knowledge of Fashion Merchandising & Management professions.
  • Experience in sales, customer service and promotions.
  • Technical skills in design, textile arts and apparel production.
  • Ability to effectively present and teach Fashion Merchandising & Management occupational skills.
  • Ability to relate to high school juniors and seniors.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an instructional team.
  • Demonstrated ability in positive human relations.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability.
  • Experience and/or training or willingness to take course work to increase knowledge and use of the following: Anti-bias, multi-cultural education
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Qualify for a Washington State Secondary Career and Technical Education Teaching Certificate.
  • Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and teach Fashion Merchandising & Management class.
  • Assume student supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
  • Further develop and implement the Fashion Design curriculum and evaluate daily instruction units to reflect current methods and practices.
  • Promote, instruct, and supervise student development and leadership technique (professional development) activities as an integral part of the curriculum.
  • Attend all Fashion Design Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Actively seek consultation and advice from the advisory committee about prevailing practices, equipment, and facilities necessary for maintaining up-to-date competencies (outcomes) and up-to-date instructional program.
  • Evaluate student classroom experiences and maintain appropriate student records and report student progress to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment: Promote a safe and pleasant classroom atmosphere using effective classroom management and discipline procedures.
  • Develop and maintain good instructor/student communication and rapport.
  • Organize, manage, and appropriately maintain the instructional facility, equipment, and resources which will serve as a positive model to students and provide a safe working environment.
  • Work with related instructors in sending high schools and at community colleges/universities to maintain program articulation, a good working relationship and a positive Cascadia Technical Academy image.
  • Be an active team member of the Cascadia Technical Academy cooperative decision-making process.
  • Work in cooperation with the Cascadia Technical Academy administration and staff to positively promote Cascadia Technical Academy, the Fashion Merchandising & Management program, and all Cascadia Technical Academy programs for student recruitment.
  • Participate in inservice activities conducted by the Evergreen School District and Cascadia Technical Academy.
  • Keep professionally current by taking related courses and maintaining involvement in professional organizations.
