Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to not own and to avoid contact with any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and will occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds at times or push/pull wheeled skids of supplies up to 1000 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for the majority of the shift on a concrete floor; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear; and drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Must maintain a high level of situational awareness while working around equipment and livestock.
  • Must be willing to use chemicals such as vitamin supplements, animal dye, and miscellaneous disinfectants (Synergize, Lysol, bleach, etc…)
  • TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 40 pounds repetitively up to 100 times per day items such as tray of eggs, etc; tools, such as wheeled buggy, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 500 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex; enter and exit vehicle up to 100 times daily.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 50 pounds items such as bags of shavings, feed buckets, bags of mortality, etc; tools, such as pallet jack, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 2000 pounds such as shavings, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (i.e. concrete floor, shavings); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 300 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, extreme dusty, dark, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.

Responsibilities

  • Attend to and care for the roosters and hens in a Laying house, maintains the overall condition of the house, and gathers eggs for incubation in accordance with pipeline production objectives.
  • Collect eggs from belts, nest boxes, slats and pen floors. The collection process requires frequent bending and stooping to remove eggs from the floor. Pens should be checked for eggs at least 8 times throughout the day.
  • Observe shell color, texture, and size of egg and separate and record accordingly. Mark eggs for line and source identification while putting eggs in plastic hatchery flats.
  • Comply with all gathering and marking instructions for special egg export orders. Record and dispose of substandard eggs as instructed.
  • Pack identified eggs in plastic hatchery flats and place in farm egg cases along with matching ticket for pickup by the egg facility at scheduled times throughout the day.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties as outlined on the Daily Checklist that include but are not limited to: turning shavings, changing shavings, sweeping, dusting, removing trash, and light maintenance.
  • Check equipment, partitions, and house infrastructure daily to ensure sound integrity and functionality. Repair or report any deficiencies discovered.
  • Performs routine quality assurance procedures to monitor egg quality and boot room and work area sanitation such as collecting weekly feed samples and environmental swabs.
  • Feed and water birds according to schedules. This includes ensuring that feeders and drinkers are accessible to birds and that feed is distributed evenly.
  • Weigh out and distribute feed exactly according to the outlined ration for both hens and roosters daily.
  • Weigh hens and roosters weekly then calculate and record both individual and average weights and uniformity. The weighing process requires frequent bending and stooping to lift birds on and off the floor.
  • Examine birds for signs of illness and treat them according to instructions. Administer nutrition supplements and medications as instructed.
  • Record and dispose of dead birds as instructed. Record information according to instructions such as egg numbers, bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality.
  • Maintain and assist with housekeeping standards in the working areas; inspect birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly; sanitation of storage areas, breakroom, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles; cleaning incinerators; moving birds, grounds-keeping and organizing breeder tags; properly euthanize selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering on-site and changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.
  • Pick up and deliver eggs from chicken houses to egg facility.
  • Observe eggs moving on conveyor through sanitizer; observe shell color/texture and external characteristics such as streaks, shadings, discolorations, cracks.
  • Place hatching eggs in buggies and boxes and properly label both for internal/external orders.
  • Properly perform egg inventory practices and records daily inventory transactions into excel spreadsheet.
  • Perform the following sanitation activities: operate and clean egg sanitizer; remove waste (egg shells, feathers, feces, etc); clean and sanitize egg room, connecting areas, crates and flats, and vehicles.
  • Place broken, dirty or other substandard eggs in container for disposal; monitor, control, and record proper egg room temperatures, humidity controls and perform simple math as part of computing chemical concentration of egg sanitizer; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.
  • Feeds and waters birds according to schedules; walks floors daily to inspect water lines, pick up and dispose of mortality, and examine birds for signs of a week or sick bird.
  • Pull trailer via farm truck to feed conversion houses to load birds ready for grow houses; transfer birds from trailer to growout house via 3’ x 3’ door from outside Team Member to inside Team Member and place in appropriate pens.
  • Perform simple math as part of calculating pen size based on bird numbers to be received and adjust to provide adequate feeder, water, and space for birds; place pen partitions according to calculations; manage floor by turning/adding shavings and checking ventilation.
  • Sorting birds by breast size (fleshing); assist farm crew with killvac; collecting weekly samples for corporate lab of cleft pallet swabs, feed, and shavings samples.
  • Inspects birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly; maintenance and sanitation of breakroom, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles; vaccinate and isolate birds to affect disease control program; administer medications to birds as needed, such as vitamins, etc; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.
