About The Position

Summary Supervise and coordinate the activities of work crew engaged in the planting, irrigating, and/or harvesting of crops and maintenance of the farm by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pivot irrigation systems' repair and maintenance.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • This role requires a valid Driver’s License held and maintained in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment to perform farming functions including but not limited to discing, plowing, ripping, planting, spraying, and cultivating in order to prepare soil and plant crops according to schedules.
  • Directs job assignments of farm workers; ensures farm workers and operations comply with established safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance tasks during the winter months to ensure smooth operation of the farm.
  • Examines farm equipment for malfunctions; schedules regular maintenance service on farm equipment; performs minor mechanical repairs to equipment and machinery in order to reduce costly equipment downtime.
  • Assists inexperienced equipment operators and/or farm workers with new tasks in order to maximize productivity and minimize costs associated with training.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems in order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of employee work hours.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
