The Farm Manager II is responsible for managing the full profit & loss of a sow farm and a multi-million dollar asset base. This role drives farm profitability through lower cost of production and increasing quality and volume of weaned pigs shipped. The manager will develop the leadership and technical skills of their team, ensuring the Performance Management system is properly executed. Responsibilities include participating in the development of annual operating goals, human resource needs, and farm business plans, as well as reviewing operating costs and performance. The role involves monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing biological and financial performance to identify root causes of issues, develop countermeasures, and execute plans to restore performance. Additionally, the manager oversees recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, and development of new team members, promotes safe work habits and a safe working environment, and coordinates all farm inputs. The position ensures the implementation of standard operating procedures, technologies, and innovations to improve production and environmental stewardship. Animal health and well-being are paramount, with a focus on implementing individual pig care practices, monitoring, and directing all practices that promote Bio-Security in coordination with Health Services. The manager is also responsible for identifying capital and routine repairs, maintaining a preventative maintenance program, and providing leadership for the team responsible for genetic improvement and implementation of the company genetic strategy. Management of the internal Gilt Development Unit (GDU) is also a key responsibility.
