Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a maintenance, construction, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in electrical troubleshooting and repair, welding experience and plumbing experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience with Smithfield Maintenance.
  • Must be able to operate a 4WD truck and trailer.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Must have good communications skills.
  • Must be willing to follow biosecurity rules.
  • Must maintain PQA Plus Certification.
  • Must be able to do basic math and record accurate records.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to operate a backhoe, forklift and other heavy equipment, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance and repairs as requested by production and directed by the maintenance leader including: Scheduling work with the applicable farm manager including arranging for help from a farm employee if needed.
  • Minimizing driving time by assuring appropriate supplies for each job are stocked on the service truck.
  • Completing work in a timely manner and submitting a final report on the work order to the maintenance manager.
  • Assist supervisor in coordinating prioritization and scheduling of maintenance orders and projects.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance as scheduled by the maintenance manager.
  • Responsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Hog Production subscribes.
  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
  • Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their worksite.
  • Responsible for understanding all safety requirements of the job and for performing the job in compliance with the safety requirements including OSHA’s trenching standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.
