About The Position

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens provides social services through over 160 programs for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those with mental illness. The Family Child Care Homes offer free Early Head Start and Head Start services for children aged six weeks to 3 years, focusing on nurturing learning environments and developmentally appropriate activities. The Family Worker is crucial for parent involvement in the Early Head Start program, acting as a liaison between the center and families, and assisting with recruitment, registration, and eligibility determination.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 2 years of experience in Human Services required.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • College Degree or Family Development Credential preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English; Russian/English; Chinese/English; Korean/English; English/Creole speaking preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain necessary records.
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies as needed.
  • Work with families in a supportive fashion.
  • Serve as a liaison between the center and parents.
  • Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and registration efforts to determine eligibility.
  • Conduct In-Takes and Family Partnership Agreements.
  • Show parents around the center.
  • Elicit social and developmental information on the child and share with teachers and staff, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Input information into the data master, complete documentation, and prepare required reports for compliance.
  • Prepare In-Kind Reports.
  • Receive and verify financial and other information needed to determine eligibility.
  • Contact families to receive information, referrals, and other services such as employment, mental health, counseling, and housing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
