About The Position

The Family Centre is seeking an on-call casual Family Time Support Worker (FTSW) to provide support to marginalized children and families involved with Children and Family Services. This role focuses on supporting families, particularly those from First Nations, Metis, Inuit, Refugee, and first-generation Canadian backgrounds, who have experienced trauma and multigenerational abuse and neglect. The FTSW will facilitate family time sessions in the community and client homes, focusing on hand-over-hand teaching to enhance parent-child attachment, reinforce parental strengths, and improve parenting skills. This includes educating parents on child development, play, structure, routine, and positive discipline. The FTSW will also transport children to and from family time and may provide occasional childcare. The organization emphasizes Trauma-Informed Care, evidence-based practices, and a diverse, inclusive, and supportive work environment, with a commitment to Indigenous ceremony and practice.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Services Field (Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Human Ecology, Early Childhood Development, Education, Psychology, Sociology, etc.) with related experience.
  • Experience working with Child & Family Services and CSD is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with families from diverse cultures, especially Indigenous families.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Police Information Check- Vulnerable Sector (completed within the last 6 months).
  • Child Intervention Records Check (completed within the last 6 months).
  • Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training within 3 months of start date.
  • Standard First Aid Level C CPR within 3 months of start date.
  • Registration with a professional body, if eligible (such as RSW).
  • $2 million Vehicle Liability Insurance.
  • Reliable Vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver’s license.
  • 5-years Driver Abstract.

  • Experience working with Child & Family Services and CSD is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support family time between children in care and their parents and/or significant others in their life.
  • Amplify caregiver's strengths while modelling and teaching parenting skills, child development, play, structure and routine, and positive discipline.
  • Support parents with children in their primary care to learn and practice parenting skills. This includes but is not limited to child development, age appropriate expectations, relationship building, attachment, play, and meeting basic needs.
  • Transport parents and children as needed between appointments and scheduled family time.
  • Complete formal documentation objectively.
  • Attend trainings and supervision meetings as required.
