About The Position

This is a supervisory position serving the localities of Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro. This position supervises the Prevention Unit which includes In-Home Services, Family Support and Family Partnership Meeting facilitation staff who provide direct services and case management to children and families to prevent foster care due to future abuse or neglect and works closely with Child Protective Services. This position also supervises the clerical staff and a Human Services Assistant that supports the Prevention unit. The Supervisor reports to the agency’s Assistant Director and/or Director.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the laws, policies, procedures, and programs relevant to the In-Home Services and Prevention services and the principles, practices and techniques of social work and casework.
  • Thorough knowledge of current social, economic, and health problems.
  • Thorough knowledge of child, adolescent, and adult behavior and the techniques and means of interviewing, counseling, and investigating problems.
  • Thorough knowledge of community resources for social services.
  • Skill in operating a computer to enter, retrieve or modify data, and the use of word processing programs, spreadsheets, case management databases, email, internet or other computer programs.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel software and programs through google.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, assign, and supervise the work of Family Service Specialists and support positions.
  • Ability to evaluate the performance of employees.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, officials, associates, employees, community partners, and the public.
  • Ability to collect and analyze complex data, draw conclusions and prepare technical reports.
  • The ability to plan and execute effective in-service training and employee development programs.
  • Use tact, diplomacy, and a customer service ethic.
  • Ability to identify and implement policies, practices, and procedures to maximize efficiency and cost savings in the provision of In-Home Prevention Services.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field or a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field and a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area.
  • Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must pass the agency’s background checks.
  • All employees must have a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Driving record must meet agency requirements.
  • Employee must be willing to work in the community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the provision of Protection of Prevention programs and completion of required training programs or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a BSW or MSW degree.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and direct oversight of a Prevention Services unit.
  • Evaluating and assigning cases and monitoring caseloads.
  • Ensuring that all casework is conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitoring and evaluating staff performance.
  • Resolving complex policy and customer service issues involving the provision of Prevention services.
  • Maintaining effective professional relationships with community partners for the benefit of Prevention operations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other child welfare units.
  • Implementing new policies and ensuring that staff are appropriately trained.
  • CPS on-call supervision coverage as needed.
  • State mandated to serve and manage emergency shelters when required.
