About The Position

This title is the management level for Family Services occupational group. Employees are responsible for managing the operations of a major social services program. Work includes developing and implementing operating policies and procedures within the framework of departmental/divisional goals and objectives. Employees are responsible for overseeing program implementation and for directing the resolution of service delivery problems. Employees plan, organize and manage the work of direct services programs and supervise Family Services Supervisors and other assigned staff. Employees identify issues and concerns and provide leadership in the development of strategies to enhance and improve the quality and array of agency programs and services.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of social service administration
  • Considerable knowledge of social work/case management theory and practices
  • Considerable knowledge of managerial principals and practices
  • Considerable knowledge of other county, state and community services and resources available
  • Considerable knowledge of client population
  • Knowledge required of Family Services Supervisors
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and the associated software
  • Skill in the operation of a motor vehicle
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, particularly in the area of social services delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a multifaceted social services program and ensure quality service delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Abilities required of Family Services Supervisors
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area
  • Considerable experience in assigned program area/human services programs
  • Completion of required training
  • Work experience in developing/implementing/monitoring/managing case plans and overseeing caseload management
  • Experience managing and supervising professional involved in social services programs
  • Any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a BSW or MSW degree
  • Possession of a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license

Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs the activities and functions of a multifaceted social services program
  • Monitors service delivery and implements organizational changes necessary to achieve goals and objectives
  • Develops and/or revises operating plans and procedures in accordance with overall departmental/divisional goals and objectives
  • Oversees the implementation of same
  • Ensures policies and procedures provide for effective delivery of services
  • Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of supervisory staff responsible for effective delivery of services
  • Participates as a member of senior management staff in examining county and statewide needs and issues
  • Works closely with other managers in the development, implementation and monitoring of new and/or revised service programs or delivery methods
  • Works with other state, community or private social service providers to ensure quality service
