About The Position

The Family Partnership is seeking a Parent Support Outreach Program (PSOP) Family Service Worker to support our PSOP program. This program works with families to develop healthy parenting skills and bonds to reduce the risk of out-of-home placement and/or child protection involvement. This position will intervene in crisis situations, provide weekly in-home parenting support, provide case management services to families, and address basic needs issues by helping clients access community resources, as well as make appropriate use of the PSOP client flex fund.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience providing services in education/employment coaching and financial/economic empowerment with low-income individuals.
  • Previous experience working with parents who are low-income, homeless/precariously housed, and disenfranchised individuals.
  • Experience working with and an understanding of low-income communities, communities of color, LGBTQ individuals and families, and other oppressed and/or vulnerable populations.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet TFP’s driving record requirements.
  • If the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, social work, human services, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regular 1:1 coaching and individual education (i.e., budgeting, financial literacy, tenant rights and responsibilities, etc.) to support participants in completing high school/attaining a GED, and in pursuing post-secondary educational goals, as well as employment and other economic mobility goals.
  • Maintain current and accurate case files, including significant behavior/daily case notes.
  • Develop partnerships with mentoring and educational organizations.
  • Develop partnerships with employment services providers and with prospective employers to facilitate the placement of participants into the formal employment sector of the economy.
  • Help families identify their strengths and weaknesses, while working to develop goals and positive changes that reduce the risk of out-of-home placement or child protection involvement.
  • Intervene in crisis situations to provide a safe environment for families.
  • Seek prior approval for flex fund expenditures from supervisor and Hennepin County staff if over the standard flex fund NTE.
  • Ensure flex fund expenditures address needs identified by client and support family health and safety, as well as developmental needs of children.
  • Substantiate all flex fund expenditures with receipts and documentation.
  • Document billable/service activity to account for all time associated with units of service as described in contract.
  • Develop partnerships with community services providers to arrange support services, such as childcare, homemaker service, prenatal care, substance abuse treatment, job training, counseling, or parenting classes.
  • Advocate and make referrals to support clients in obtaining resources available in the community.
