About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Full-Time Family Peer Support Specialist to join our Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) team in Machias. In this rewarding role, you'll use your personal experience, empathy, and advocacy skills to empower families and caregivers, helping them build resilience, access resources, and actively participate in their loved one's recovery journey.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of lived experience in parenting or in a parenting role (meaning biological parent, caregiver, foster parent, or grandparent) with at least one child/youth who lived with the applicant for 3 or more years who is receiving or has received services and support related to the diagnosis of a mental illness, and who is willing to self-identify.
  • Must be willing to complete the designated Maine Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) curriculum for peer support within 9 months from the hire date and maintain that certification for the duration of employment.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required, as this position includes travel throughout the community and service area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, peer-based emotional support to families and caregivers.

  • Educate families about recovery, available services, and strategies for self-care and stress management.
  • Assist with referrals and connect families to community supports and resources.
  • Collaborate with behavioral health professionals, case managers, and treatment teams to coordinate care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency and funding requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and community outreach activities.
