About The Position

The Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) Family Peer Specialist provides guidance, encouragement, and advocacy to children and families receiving behavioral health services. Drawing from lived experience, the Family Peer Specialist empowers caregivers, helps them navigate services, and connects them with community resources while serving as a valued member of the treatment team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Personal lived experience supporting a child or adolescent with behavioral health, psychiatric, substance use, autism, juvenile justice, or similar family challenges
  • Lived experience with foster care or having a child who has received foster care services
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and service providers

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support and encouragement to caregivers and families
  • Help families navigate behavioral health and community resources
  • Advocate for family voice and participation in treatment planning
  • Offer coaching and support during meetings with providers
  • Assist families in developing natural support systems
  • Collaborate with treatment teams to promote positive outcomes for children and families
