About The Position

The Family/Parent Support Specialist is part of a multidisciplinary behavioral health team, providing treatment and support to program members. This role assists parents of children with behavioral health diagnoses, helps them navigate various systems, and connects them to local resources. The specialist encourages families towards self-advocacy, fostering relationships and skill-building to improve the well-being of both the family member and the child. Work can be performed in the office, remotely from home, at clients' residences, or in the local community, and may involve travel and attending meetings.

Requirements

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED.
  • Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license are required.
  • Must identify as a "peer," meaning a parent or in a parenting role of a child with behavioral health issues.
  • The child must have lived with the peer for at least 3 years.
  • The child must have been diagnosed at least three years ago with emotional, developmental, behavioral substance use or mental health concerns.
  • The child must have been involved in some or all of: special education, behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile justice.
  • Must be able and willing to take the training to become a family/parent peer and be certified.

Responsibilities
