About The Position

This is a single-family office based in Cape Town managing assets across a diversified, multi-asset international portfolio. The investment philosophy is long-term, globally diversified, and focused on traditional asset classes including international equities, fixed income, and alternatives. The office is lean by design. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy and direct access to the principal, making this an exceptional opportunity for a qualified professional who wants meaningful responsibility early in their career. We are looking for a Head of Family Office to take ownership of the day-to-day financial management, reporting, and operational oversight of the office. You will be the principal's trusted right hand on all financial matters, managing everything from portfolio administration and tax structuring to service provider coordination and compliance. This is not a back-office admin role. You will be expected to think commercially, understand the portfolio at a strategic level, and proactively identify opportunities and risks. The principal is looking for someone who can grow with the office and take on increasing responsibility over time.

Requirements

  • Qualified CA (SA) with a minimum of three years post-articles experience.
  • Specific experience in South African individual tax is mandatory.
  • Completed CFA level 3 exam.
  • Deep, technical understanding of international portfolio management across traditional and alternative asset classes.
  • Comfortable engaging with asset managers at a technical level regarding fund performance and risk.
  • Proven experience in the Private Equity or Venture Capital space, including a demonstrated ability to manage deals and navigate a network of founders and investors.
  • Experience in international tax efficient corporate structuring.
  • Experience managing financial affairs across multiple entities and currencies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory landscapes and the ability to remain dynamic to learn and stay abreast with new regulations.
  • Commercially minded professional who understands how financial decisions impact long-term strategy.
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable narrative for a demanding Principal.
  • Concise and confident communicator, capable of raising issues early and managing expectations with a high degree of autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary advisor on global market allocations, with a specific focus on US stocks, hedge funds, and long/short equity strategies.
  • Critically evaluate fund strategies, expense ratios, and portfolio structures to provide proactive recommendations to the Principal.
  • Lead the end-to-end management of Private Equity and Venture Capital investments, including sourcing through personal network, conducting rigorous due diligence, and managing relationships with founders and CEOs through to deal closure.
  • Have a point of view, think commercially, and have the confidence to "push back" on the Principal when an investment or financial decision does not align with the broader strategy.
  • Maintain high-level oversight of consolidated reporting and multi-jurisdictional compliance.
  • Act as the central point of contact for high-level external stakeholders, including fund managers, wealth managers, and specialist tax consultants.
