About The Position

Nurse practitioners (NPs) or physician assistants (PAs) provide primary and specialty health care to new and established patients. They assess and manage common acute and chronic illnesses, consult and make referrals, and collaborate with physicians and other members of the health care team while also working independently. Care includes comprehensive assessments and physical examinations; ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests; diagnosing and managing acute and chronic disease; promoting wellness; prescribing medications and treatments; providing non-pharmacological therapies; and arranging appropriate follow-up. Teaching and counseling individuals, families, and groups are significant parts of the role. NPs and PAs are also expected to serve as mentors and participate in clinical improvement and research projects as appropriate to the clinical setting. NPs or PAs must be board certified by examination by an approved certifying body. The role requires a Minnesota license and relevant credentials for the selected professional pathway, as well as active BLS certification and DEA registration by the start date.

Requirements

Board certification by examination by an approved certifying body.
Family Nurse Practitioner: Master's-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
Family Nurse Practitioner: Current Minnesota RN and APRN licenses and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Physician Assistant: Current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross at the start date.
DEA registration required.

Responsibilities
