About The Position

SEARHC, a non-profit health consortium serving Southeast Alaska, is seeking a full-time Family Medicine with Obstetrics Physician to join an established primary care team at Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center in Sitka. The role combines outpatient and inpatient pediatric and obstetrical care, including newborn delivery attendance, newborn care, pediatric admissions, and shared hospital call. Physicians provide evidence-based primary care and deliveries, manage a full patient panel with an integrated care team, and may provide services in community settings or rural locations as needed. The clinic is located at a new medical center with modern infrastructure and offers 16 exam spaces, two procedure rooms, clinical support staff, and diagnostic services. The practice includes opportunities for women’s health and other procedures, as well as occasional long-term care and home visits. The position uses Meditech, Dragon Dictation, and DAX AI-assisted documentation. Physicians also provide clinical guidance to Advanced Practice Clinicians, participate in quality and performance improvement, teach visiting medical students and residents, and maintain active medical staff membership at relevant facilities. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with telemedicine and four hours of weekly administrative time. Call is generally one 7-day block per month in a shared non-surgical obstetrics rotation, with 24/7 surgical obstetrics and anesthesia backup. The role also participates in shared evening clinic and occasional weekend clinic coverage. Compensation is listed as $263,764–$293,071 based on experience, with productivity and quality incentives. Requirements

MD or DO degree.
Active and unrestricted Alaska medical license, or ability to obtain one.
Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine.
Unrestricted DEA registration.
Current BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Current ALSO certification.
Current NRP certification.
Knowledge of primary care principles and practices.
Ability to use electronic medical records and other clinically required technology efficiently.
Strong oral and written communication, analytical, problem-solving, and clinical program implementation skills.
Minor and major surgical skills for which the physician has received adequate training and remains proficient.

Responsibilities

Provide evidence-based primary medical care, including pediatric and obstetrical care and deliveries.
Provide services outside the clinic when needed, including at long-term care facilities, the Pioneer Home, patients’ homes, and local schools.
Provide guidance, consultation, and advice to Advanced Practice Clinicians and, when necessary, provide supervision and practice-plan oversight.
Lead and manage a full patient panel in coordination with the integrated care team.
Document patient services in the medical record in accordance with medical staff rules and regulations.
Participate in the shared obstetrics and pediatric call rotation.
Participate in SEARHC and, as needed, BRH quality and performance improvement programs, and maintain active staff membership at both facilities.
Provide medical education and teaching to visiting medical students and resident physicians.
Participate in shared evening clinic and occasional weekend clinic coverage.
Participate in ongoing medical education to maintain licensure and board certification.
Occasionally serve as a consultative liaison to rural health care providers, potentially including field visits to remote locations.
Occasionally perform general hospitalist duties when needed.
Perform medical procedures appropriate to outpatient and emergency care settings, including procedures for which the physician has adequate training and maintains proficiency.
Provide clinical leadership, promote teamwork and collaboration, offer clinical guidance, and help resolve conflict.
Communicate and collaborate respectfully with patients, families, staff, and colleagues, and respond sensitively to patients’ and staff members’ cultural and personal differences.
