About The Position

Thundermist Health Center is launching a new ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency program and is seeking a founding Program Director to lead all aspects of its development. This role involves accreditation, curriculum design, faculty recruitment, and resident selection, with a target matriculation date of June 2027. The Program Director will divide their time between program leadership, precepting residents, and providing direct patient care at the Woonsocket site, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. This position offers an opportunity to shape future family physicians and advance health equity.

Requirements

  • MD or DO with board certification in Family Medicine (ABFM) — no other specialties will be considered.
  • Active Rhode Island medical licensure (or eligibility).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of post-residency clinical experience, including FQHC settings.
  • Minimum 3 years of medical education experience (preferably GME) with documented experience training medical students or residents.
  • CORE faculty training completed, or willingness to complete upon assuming the role.
  • Outstanding communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • A demonstrated commitment to health equity, community medicine, and building inclusive training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of developing and launching Thundermist’s new ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency program.
  • Design competency-based clinical and didactic curricula aligned with ACGME requirements and Thundermist’s commitment to patient-centered, community-oriented care.
  • Complete the accreditation application, lead site visits, and maintain ongoing ACGME compliance.
  • Collaborate with clinical partners to establish and maintain resident rotation sites across specialties.
  • Design assessment tools, conduct routine resident evaluations, and continuously improve curricula based on outcomes and feedback.
  • Oversee all aspects of resident recruitment and selection, including ERAS application review and the NRMP Match process, with a focus on building a diverse cohort.
  • Recruit, supervise, and mentor program faculty, fostering a culture of teaching excellence and ongoing professional development.
  • Directly supervise four faculty positions (two physicians, one behavioral health faculty, and one additional faculty member) with dual reporting responsibilities.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice at the Woonsocket site, dedicating eight hours per week to direct patient care using eClinicalWorks.
  • Precept residents in clinical settings for eight hours per week (two 4-hour blocks), serving as a role model for community-engaged family medicine.
  • Participate in the departmental call and coverage rotation.
