About The Position

Denver Health Medical Center Department of Family Medicine is seeking a full-time Family Medicine Junior Faculty Fellow (1.0 FTE). This unique 12-month Fellowship offers candidates a year to enhance their Family Medicine training typically in one or two areas of focus, while continuing to grow in the broad scope of Family Medicine clinical practice. Fellows will choose areas of focus that will enhance their development; prepare them to be leaders in education, academic or clinical Family Medicine; and enhance the environment in which they work. Fellows teach other trainees and participate in scholarly work mentored by the Fellowship Director or an agreed upon Mentor. Fellows also learn the multiple systems involved with primary care in a safety net setting. Other training experiences will be designed by the fellow and the Fellowship Director and/or agreed upon Mentor. Further curriculum details are available through from the Fellowship Director. This Fellowship is 12 months and begins July 1; applicants interested in a different start date should speak with the Fellowship Director. Completion of the Fellowship does not guarantee future employment at Denver Health or the University of Colorado, although our goal is to position Fellows for academic or leadership positions in Family Medicine for the safety net workforce at any organization. The successful candidate will have an academic appointment through the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Applicants must have or be eligible to obtain a Colorado medical license and be board certified in Family Medicine. This Fellowship is not currently open to other medical specialties.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. from accredited medical school, board-eligible in Family Medicine by the start of the fellowship
  • Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine residency
  • Eligible to obtain a Colorado medical license
  • Board certified in Family Medicine
  • Knowledge of Family Medicine principles and practice
  • General skills related to the assessment and triage of primary care patients.
  • Skills related to teaching medical students, Family Medicine residents, and other trainees

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and treating primary care patients in all clinical settings where Family Physicians work as determined for the fellowship year. (40%)
  • Participating in Quality Improvement activities in their home clinic, in the Department of Family Medicine, Community Health Services or in the larger systems that care for patients and as applies to the goals of the fellowship.
  • Creating scholarship from the work in regional or national presentations or appropriate publications (20%)
  • Participating in additional training rotation and electives as deemed appropriate for the fellowship goals. (20%)
  • Teaching medical and health professions students, and residents in a variety of settings, whenever possible (20%)
