About The Position

Pine Tree Legal Assistance (PTLA) is seeking a Family Law and Victim Rights (FLVR) Attorney to provide high-quality, low-barrier holistic legal services to victims of domestic and sexual violence and stalking, primarily in Aroostook County, based out of the Presque Isle office. The attorney will also provide occasional coverage for FLVR cases in other areas of Maine as needed. This role is part of a statewide team specializing in domestic and sexual violence cases, working closely with local resource centers. The attorney will operate under the direction of the FLVR supervisor and collaboratively within the Unit, providing legal advocacy ranging from advice and limited representation to full legal representation in cases where it will have the greatest impact. The project focuses on protection from abuse, family matters, and education cases, with a holistic approach that may include screening and representation or referral for related housing, consumer, benefits, and other civil legal needs. The attorney will assess and triage cases, consult with partner agency staff, collaborate with community response team members, and potentially participate in working groups and coalitions to improve systems addressing issues relevant to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and victims of stalking. Community engagement and networking to strengthen PTLA's reputation and access to services are also key responsibilities, including outreach and trainings. The attorney will have opportunities to consult with PTLA staff in other practice areas and provide internal referrals, and may also provide direct service in related civil legal matters depending on local office needs and available resources. Frequent travel for court and work activities is required, with occasional evening or weekend time for trainings. Client meetings may occur outside the office, and travel to other courts and partner agencies is expected.
