About The Position

We are a Family Law Firm based in Roanoke, Virginia with an office in Blacksburg looking for an attorney who has a passion for helping people going through divorce and custody battles. While we support personal and professional development, we need an experienced attorney who can hit the ground running to give our clients outstanding representation. You must have a proven history of building trusted relationships with clients and know your way around a courtroom. If you see a case file as an opportunity to help someone build a new life, you’ll like the way we think. Skills and experience are important and valued, but your personality, character, intelligence, and integrity are also extremely important considerations. We are growing, and you will be called upon to wear many hats. We need someone who does not think that the occasional need to scan your own documents is “beneath you."

Requirements

Proven history of building trusted relationships with clients.
Know your way around a courtroom.
Contribute to developing the strategy of a case.
Knows where to find the rules of procedure and caselaw to back up that case strategy.
Knows how to find your way around the courtroom and how to project confidence and competence when dealing with people on behalf of our clients.
Knows how to read financial statements.
Understands equitable distribution.
Can help put together a time-sharing plan.
Able to help a client understand whether they really want to spend $500 to fight with their ex over a $50 lamp.
Can count on you to show up in court on time.
Does not think that the occasional need to scan your own documents is “beneath you."

Responsibilities

Take ownership of a client's case – discovery, pleadings, motions, experts, depositions, mediation, pretrial hearings, motion hearings, and trials.
Conduct client meetings and recommend strategies.
Delegate work to paralegals and legal assistants and monitor their work.
