About The Position

Create memorable experiences that keep families coming back! As the Family Engagement Coordinator at our Sampson facility, you’ll lead Child Watch, support our preschool team, bring birthday celebrations to life, and plan fun, engaging programs for youth and families. From leading staff to jumping into activities, you’ll blend creativity, organization, and hands-on service to help every family feel welcome and connected. Your work will bring the YMCA’s mission to life through opportunities for children and families to learn, play, and grow together.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have college credits toward Human Services, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field, or at least one year of related experience.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within six months of hire.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work with children and supervise, develop, and motivate employees and volunteers.
  • Ability to respond effectively to safety concerns and emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of youth programs, team-building activities, and competitive and noncompetitive games.
  • Strong oral and written communication, active listening, and customer service skills, with the ability to engage people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate programs, manage schedules, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to evaluate program participation and effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Ability to contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
  • Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
  • Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
  • Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise Child Watch, birthday parties, Kids’ Night Out, and related programs to meet YMCA objectives and maintain high standards of program quality and safety.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, and schedule department employees and volunteers.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to support communication, engagement, retention, and understanding of the YMCA mission.
  • Provide direct coverage in Child Watch when employees or volunteers are unavailable.
  • Deliver excellent service, build relationships, and respond promptly to member and community inquiries and complaints.
  • Assist with department payroll approval and annual employee performance reviews according to association procedures.
  • Compile program statistics and evaluate participation and effectiveness to guide program improvements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate birthday parties and purchase department supplies as needed.
  • Support the annual campaign by recruiting campaigners, serving on planning committees, and assisting where needed.
  • Assist with marketing, promotions, community events, and YMCA special events; encourage participation among staff, youth, teens, and families.
  • Follow and uphold association Human Resources and Finance procedures, employee and department handbooks, safety and risk management policies, and emergency response procedures.
  • Participate in management team meetings, assigned committees, and required YMCA trainings.
  • Model YMCA core values and character development while fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
