About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator & Program Director, the Family Development Associate (FDA) is responsible for providing case management and housing navigation services and resources to SBCS clients and the Community who are ready for, and in need of, permanent housing. FDA will facilitate coordination of services as well as contacts with other organizations, landlords and individuals, as necessary to effectively serve clients. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. Associate is responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in social work, psychology or related field required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in child, youth and family services field.
  • Experience in working with families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and crisis intervention.
  • Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with high-risk needs.
  • Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, and other employees.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Physical ability to act in emergency situations.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication, persuasion and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy. (Approximately 30% of the time.)

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management, advocacy, referrals to aid in housing stability, and other services relative to program goals and objectives for clients.
  • Conduct strengths-based assessments and develop service plans with clients.
  • Complete all required case file documentation in a timely and routine fashion.
  • Assist clients/applicants with obtaining necessary documentation for rental assistance
  • Conduct outreach and maintain relationships with landlords to maintain and increase availability of rental units for clients
  • Conduct ongoing inspection of housing units for cleanliness and safety
  • Work with landlords to obtain necessary documentation to provide rental assistance
  • Participates in DV hotline schedule rotation including assessing for shelter needs and safety planning
  • Ensure flexibility of scheduling to meet the needs of SBCS’ clients, including providing services on weekends and evenings as required.
  • Utilize the Agency’s approved database.
  • Maintain client case files in accordance with Agency standards.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in special projects and activities related to agency goals and objectives.
  • Provide crisis intervention services and referrals via telephone and in person to walk-ins.
  • As other duties assigned.
