About The Position

This position serves as a legal advisor to the Board of Senior Family Court Judges and Directors in matters needing legal clarification, and is responsible for drafting policies and procedures for judges and staff at the direction of the First Circuit Senior Family Court Judge or designee. This position is also responsible for drafting policies and procedures to implement Acts which impact the Family Courts; drafting legal forms necessary to implement legislation and policies; provides general supervision over the Legal Research Unit; assists with revising and updating the Hawaii Family Court Rules; serves as the First Circuit Family Court Custodian of Records; assists the Board of Senior Family Court Judges and Directors in keeping the statewide policies and procedures consistent; renders legal research assistance to the Family Court judges and administrative staff statewide; drafts legal opinions and memoranda; and is responsible for coordinating legislative efforts for the Family Courts statewide; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law.
  • One (1) year of work experience in legal research and writing.
  • One (1) year of work experience in litigation.
  • One (1) year of work experience in review of and drafting of legislation.
  • One (1) year of work experience in review of new laws for impact of court requirements.
  • One (1) year of work experience in development of policies, procedures, and legal forms to implement new laws.
  • One (1) year of experience in a family court setting or litigating in family court proceedings that includes familiarity with and understanding of issues relating to family court processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of various court rules, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for managing confidential, complex, jurisdictional, and controversial issues.
  • Possess an active license to practice law in all courts of the State of Hawaii.
