Requirements

  • Degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, or Human Services (Psychology, Sociology, Education, Human Ecology or Early Childhood Development) with experience in the field.
  • Diploma in Child & Youth Care or Social Work with related experience.
  • Certificate in Human Services Sector with extensive experience with Indigenous culture and communities.
  • Reference checks with most recent employers.
  • Police Information Check - Vulnerable Sector (completed within the last 6 months).
  • Child Intervention Records Check (completed within the last 6 months).
  • Registration with a professional body, if eligible (such as RSW).
  • $2 million Vehicle Liability Insurance.
  • Reliable Vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver’s license.
  • 5-years Driver Abstract.
  • Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training within 3 months of start date.
  • Standard First Aid Level C CPR within 3 months of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home and community-based support to vulnerable children and families involved with Children and Family Services, with a primary focus on Indigenous families and individuals who have experienced trauma and multigenerational abuse and neglect.
  • Operate on a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, to build therapeutic relationships with parents using basic counseling skills and a trauma-informed care approach.
  • Collaborate with a team to coordinate, initiate, and mobilize internal and external resources to achieve service plan objectives.
  • Utilize problem-solving, organizational, and collaborative skills.
  • Support family time between children in care and their parents/significant others.
  • Amplify caregiver strengths, model, and teach parenting skills, child development, play, structure, routine, and positive discipline.
  • Assist children and parents in connecting with their culture and support Indigenous families in participating in ceremony.
  • Identify, strengthen, and reconnect relationships with family, kin, and friends to create long-term support for child well-being, reunification, and safety.
  • Initiate and facilitate family support network meetings.
  • Assess ongoing risk for children and families receiving services as per the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA).
  • Transport parents and children as needed between appointments and scheduled family time.
  • Complete formal documentation and ensure file standards are met.
  • Provide on-call support to families 24/7 on a rotational basis.
