The Family Centered Specialist assesses individuals served in the areas of mental status, personality, behavioral response patterns, relationships, and family interactions. Based on assessment of individual needs, the specialist proposes service or treatment plans and makes practical suggestions for change. The role provides activity- and participation-based interventions and approaches developed from training materials, experience, families’ successes, and peers. The specialist provides 24/7 coverage for assigned individuals and families and develops a closure and aftercare plan for each person or family served. The role also builds and maintains positive relationships with personnel from referring and collateral agencies, guides families in working with those agencies and other community organizations, and provides referrals to services and resources on families’ behalf. The position keeps confidential, organized, and complete documentation and records, submitting them to a supervisor accurately and on time. The specialist participates in peer team meetings and collateral team meetings as needed, and supports peer development by addressing professional-development concerns and team performance issues. The role may also include training or field supervision of new or tenured peers, reviewing and editing peer records and documentation, and contributing to marketing and education presentations and training and development for the region or team meetings.
