POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a Family Center Director or other assigned associate, the Family Center Intern participates in a structured learning and professional development experience designed to provide exposure to the operations of a community-based Family Center. The intern will have opportunities to observe, learn, and gain practical experience across various departments, including but not limited to Membership, Fitness, Youth and Family Programming, and Occupancy.

Requirements

  • Must meet qualifications established by the Y in Central Maryland.
  • Good character, professional demeanor, and the ability to follow directions, accept supervision, and communicate clearly.
  • Current enrollment in a high school, college, university, vocational program, or workforce development program.
  • Required to report to the office on designated workdays in accordance with organizational expectations.

  • Pool safety and instructional equipment, some computer skills required

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a structured internship experience to provide exposure to Family Center operations, programs, and services.
  • Shadow and observe associates across various departments, to gain an understanding of daily operations.
  • Participate in training opportunities and professional development activities to enhance workplace knowledge and career readiness.
  • Learn and practice customer service, communication, teamwork, and professional skills under the guidance of assigned supervisors and mentors.
  • Develop an understanding of the Family Center’s mission, values, programs, and community impact.
  • Build relationships with associates and community members while demonstrating the organization’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Complete assigned learning activities, documentation, and internship requirements as outlined by the internship agreement or educational institution.
