About The Position

Family Life Academy Charter School (FLACS) is a nonprofit network of high-performing charter schools in the South Bronx. FLACS is seeking a dynamic Family and Community Liaison to increase the involvement of current families in the school and enhance FLACS's visibility within the community to attract future families. This role involves engaging with and involving parents by collaborating with the principal, school staff, network staff, parent associations, and community groups. The liaison will focus on creating a welcoming environment for parents, identifying and addressing parent and school/community issues, providing information on programs and services, referring families to other agencies, and fostering a partnership between home and school. They will also make community connections and promote the FLACS Network's visibility. This role works closely with Network-level positions.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree (or equivalent)
  • Two years of experience in community work related to the duties described.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required.
  • DASA trained or completed training within the first month of the school year.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a first point of contact for parents with concerns and issues (e.g., school policies or facilities issues) and act as a liaison between parents and other staff members to address these concerns.
  • Increase the involvement of current families in the school by working closely with the school, parent, and community organizations.
  • Conduct outreach to current parents to engage them in their children’s education through phone calls, ParentSquare messages, and emails.
  • Convene at least one parent meeting, workshop, or event per month on topics of key concern to parents.
  • Support the Parent Association in holding their monthly meetings and other PA-hosted events.
  • Attend the student lottery and support student registration post-lottery.
  • Attend special community, city, and/or state events as requested by the principal or network leadership.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with community organizations.
  • Organize back-to-school night, parent workshops, and other events to increase parental and community involvement and create a welcoming school environment for parents.
  • Translate school-based written communications into Spanish and provide oral translation at school-based parent workshops and meetings.
  • Utilize ParentSquare to communicate with current FLACS families, including for personal outreach and for whole-school and group posts.
  • Support the principal in other areas where parent communication is essential (e.g., bussing, food, health, sports, school trips) to ensure student safety and welfare.
  • Uphold the FLACS mission, core beliefs, and educational philosophy.
  • Reflect on practice and be a lifelong learner striving to improve effectiveness and guide professional growth.
  • Engage and collaborate with colleagues and the community to develop and sustain a common culture that supports high expectations for student learning.
