About The Position

The Family & Community Engagement (FACE) Manager builds meaningful connections between Coney Island Prep, our families, and the broader Coney Island community. This is a hands-on, community-facing role for someone who enjoys building relationships, bringing people together, and turning ideas into action. The FACE Manager plays a key role in strengthening family engagement, supporting student recruitment and enrollment, and building partnerships that expand CIP’s reach. They will use community and enrollment data to identify trends, understand needs, and shape strategies that strengthen our work. Through these efforts, the FACE Manager helps build a strong school community and supports our mission of helping scholars reach the college and career of their choice. This position is based in our network office in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The FACE Manager will be hired by and report to the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment. Although this position has no direct reports, the person in the role will manage processes and systems with an orientation toward operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; at least three years of teaching, school operations or community organizing experience.
  • Background in adult education, advocacy, grassroots organizing, social or civil action campaigns, recruitment or community organizing preferred.
  • Established knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets; experience with project and budget management software; knowledge of Schoolrunner, SchoolMint, PowerSchool and/or HubSpot a plus.
  • Experience with organizing, planning, and facilitating large events and meetings.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends throughout the year.
  • Ability to travel to all four of our campuses in the Coney Island area.
  • Cultural competencies to work in low-income communities and a willingness to examine own biases across lines of difference.

Responsibilities

  • Build a diverse, equitable and inclusive community by understanding the unique needs of each community member and meeting them where they are.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for families throughout recruitment, enrollment, and registration by proactively communicating, addressing barriers, and supporting next steps.
  • Engage with current families at campus events and perspective families at community events throughout the year to strengthen community, recruitment, and retention.
  • Organize two network-wide family engagement events per school year.
  • Participate in canvassing, community advertising, and tabling; manage budgets for events and advertising, and execute purchasing.
  • Collaborate with and directly support the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment on the strategy and implementation of student recruitment, enrollment, and registration.
  • Ensure organization-wide and community resources are included in school newsletters.
  • Assist campuses with the required communications related to the DOE middle and high school enrollment process.
  • Ensure families' completion with high response rates on all network-wide family-facing surveys.
  • Manage a small budget for, and administer microgrants to, families experiencing extreme financial need when existing community resources may not sufficiently address and immediate need.
  • Facilitate Family Empowerment Meetings in person and over Zoom, as well as professional development sessions for various stakeholders on family and community engagement.
  • Field family questions about the school; liaise with Chief Schools Officer and the Chief Operating Officer to support in elevating family voices.
  • Collaborate and co-lead by navigating across organizational layers including school-based operations teams and community partners to achieve challenging enrollment goals.
  • Develop new and maintain existing local community partnerships, keeping an index of community partners and strategically leveraging these partnerships in school efforts.
  • Engage key stakeholders in the community to support and attend Coney Island Prep events.
  • Connect community resources to scholars and their families through school-based staff.
  • Plan organization-wide community events and community service opportunities for all staff members.
  • Partner with our High School to facilitate community service opportunities for scholars.
  • Connect Coney Island Prep to community resources including local non-profits, community and faith-based organizations, and businesses to deepen our organization’s impact.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to broaden Coney Island Prep’s message and reach within District 21, charter schools, and New York City.
  • Coordinate visits, campaigns, and collaboration with elected officials and advocacy partners; organize community events where elected officials attend and participate.
  • Participate in policy and advocacy meetings with other charter schools and bring best practices back to CIP.
  • Regularly review enrollment data, identify trends, and create plans to address gaps.
