About The Position

The Family and Community Engagement Coordinator serves as a liaison between families, school staff, community organizations, and district leadership to foster meaningful family engagement and support student success. The Coordinator develops, implements, and evaluates programs and initiatives that strengthen partnerships among families, schools, and the community to improve student achievement, attendance, behavior, and overall well-being. This position supports the district’s mission by ensuring families have access to information, resources, and opportunities to actively participate in their child’s education and school community.

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in family engagement, community outreach, education, social services, youth development, customer service, or a related field.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout school and community settings for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel to community locations, meetings, and family engagement events.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience working in an urban school setting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate family engagement programs and activities aligned with school improvement goals and student achievement outcomes.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between families, the school, district departments, and community organizations.
  • Promote meaningful family participation in school events, programs, decision-making opportunities, and school improvement efforts.
  • Conduct outreach to families through phone calls, meetings, home visits (when appropriate), and community events.
  • Identify and address barriers that may prevent families from participating in school activities, including language, transportation, childcare, and access to resources.
  • Ensure families receive timely and accurate information regarding school programs, policies, procedures, and services.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate workshops, trainings, and informational sessions that help families support student learning, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, interventionists, administrators, and other staff to provide family education opportunities that support student success.
  • Assist families in understanding academic expectations, assessment results, graduation requirements, and college and career readiness pathways.
  • Ensure communications and engagement opportunities are accessible to multilingual families and families with diverse needs.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, businesses, agencies, and service providers to support students and families.
  • Connect families with community resources, including educational, health, social service, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Represent the school at community meetings, events, and outreach activities.
  • Coordinate community-based supports and services that address student and family needs.
  • Recruit, train, coordinate, and recognize parent and community volunteers.
  • Support parent leadership opportunities, advisory committees, family councils, and school improvement teams.
  • Maintain volunteer records and ensure compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Collect and maintain data related to family engagement activities and participation.
  • Assist with documentation and reporting requirements related to district, state, and federal family engagement initiatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of family engagement programs and recommend improvements.
  • Support implementation of Parent and Family Engagement requirements associated with federal and state programs, as applicable.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, family, and district information.
  • Attend evening and weekend events as needed.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee.
