About The Position

The Family Ambassador Lead serves as a primary community-facing representative for KIPP schools in San Francisco and Oakland, supporting the execution of regional student recruitment efforts through field outreach, family engagement, and enrollment support. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Recruitment and Enrollment, this individual contributor role executes community-based recruitment activities, maintains prospective family engagement, and supports enrollment processes with quality, timeliness, and strong customer service. In this role, you execute assigned tasks with quality and timeliness while independently managing day-to-day outreach logistics and escalating non-routine concerns or barriers that require additional support or decision-making.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of professional experience in community outreach, student recruitment, or field-based organizing, with a proven track record of independently executing outreach plans and achieving engagement targets.
  • Direct experience with K-12 public education—as a parent, student, or staff member—including a demonstrated ability to serve as a credible "connector" and build trust within the diverse communities of San Francisco or Oakland.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree is not required, provided the candidate possesses an equivalent combination of professional experience and community expertise.
  • Working knowledge of community organizing methods—including canvassing, phone banking, and tabling—with the ability to adapt messaging for different neighborhood contexts in San Francisco and Oakland.
  • Familiarity with local geographic and cultural landscapes and a "connector mindset" capable of building authentic, credible relationships with families and community-based organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and persuasion skills with the ability to provide helpful customer service and navigate enrollment questions with empathy, clarity, and a focus on solutions.
  • Professional proficiency in Spanish or Cantonese is required for direct family communication, community engagement, and supporting families through the enrollment process.
  • Must have a valid CA driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel.
  • Ability to navigate office and school campuses, use technology, and occasionally lift or carry materials up to 20 lbs. Much of the day may involve walking. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, concentrate for sustained periods, analyze complex information, and make decisions under normal work pressures.

Responsibilities

  • Execute field-based outreach plans, including canvassing, tabling, and phone banking to ensure high visibility and a consistent pipeline of prospective families in San Francisco and Oakland.
  • Identify and secure high-traffic community locations and large-scale events for recruitment activities so that KIPP maintains a constant and welcoming presence where families live and work.
  • Manage and track prospective student leads in HubSpot to ensure all recruitment inputs are documented, and follow-up communication is executed with quality and timeliness.
  • Persuade and inspire prospective families by effectively communicating KIPP’s mission and value proposition to ensure they choose to apply and remain engaged through the registration and enrollment process.
  • Deliver exceptional, high-touch customer service and bilingual communication to prospective families to ensure they feel supported and valued, resulting in high conversion rates from lead to enrolled student.
  • Guide families through the multi-step application and registration process in SchoolMint, providing the necessary technical support and persistent follow-up to ensure all requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Identify and escalate non-routine family concerns or enrollment barriers to team leadership to ensure timely resolution and a seamless onboarding experience for new students.
  • Partner with school-based operations teams to lead school tours and support campus events, ensuring a welcoming and persuasive experience for families that aligns with individual school needs and regional recruitment goals.
  • Partner with the Student Recruitment and Enrollment team and other RSO departments to ensure all field activities remain aligned with regional growth goals and organizational strategy.
  • Identify and maintain functional relationships with community-based organizations to amplify KIPP’s mission through their local networks and communication channels.
  • Deliver compelling presentations and information sessions to CBO partners and groups of prospective families to clearly articulate KIPP's mission and educational model, resulting in increased brand awareness and application intent.
  • Plan and organize the weekly logistics for field-based activities using Asana to ensure all tasks, materials, and deadlines are met for successful community engagement.
  • Execute marketing and flyering campaigns across target neighborhoods to raise brand awareness and ensure all potential families are aware of enrollment deadlines.
  • Monitor SchoolMint data and HubSpot activity to maintain data integrity and provide leadership with real-time visibility into the health of the enrollment funnel.
