About The Position

Corporate Treasury (CT) offers a comprehensive view of the entire Enterprise, managing enterprise-wide capital, liquidity, non-trading interest rate risk, and pension assets, while also executing term funding, capital, and interest rate risk hedging transactions. This role provides an opportunity to work within both the Capital and Liquidity functions of CT. Capital Measurement, under Financial Resource Optimization (FRO), is responsible for managing capital resources to support RBC’s strategic objectives, including the measurement, monitoring, and forecasting of risk-weighted assets, leverage, and capital metrics. FRO collaborates with various internal groups to deploy capital and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements. Liquidity Measurement focuses on managing RBC’s liquidity risk prudently and cost-effectively, against both regulatory and internal targets, and in line with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework. Corporate Treasury also develops strategies and contingency plans for liquidity risk. As a Data and Product Analyst student, you will work with the Capital and Liquidity Data, Systems, and Business Solutions teams, supporting Product Owners with the existing infrastructure platform and its upgrades driven by key regulatory and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on Business, Finance and Economics, Data Science and Data Analytics, Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics.
  • Comfortable with learning new technologies, applying empirical thinking to data and balanced with ability/ambition to perform logical deduction based on learnings of business and financial concepts on the job.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership acumen and a passion to apply it in a dynamic business environment.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities across several assignments and prioritize effectively.
  • Must either be returning back to school after the work term end-date; or if not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating immediately after the work term), you must require the full work term as a mandatory component in order to graduate successfully.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and experience in Capital, Liquidity, and Credit and Liquidity Risk Management.
  • Knowledge/Ability to Learn of Regulatory Guidelines around Capital and Liquidity such as CAR and LAR Guidelines.
  • Knowledge or experience with business analysis process (requirements gathering, documentation, use cases).
  • Expressed interest or previous experience in the financial industry or FinTech.
  • Experience with agile or design thinking methodologies or frameworks.
  • Demonstrated blend of technical and business skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Product team by contributing and leading Analytics and Metrics to enable data-driven decisions.
  • Work alongside a product owner(s) and be responsible for analyzing key data sets and data elements related to Capital and Liquidity Measurement and Reporting.
  • Participate in a team where data, measurement, and analysis are integral to smart decision-making and ensuring accurate and complete measurement of Capital and Liquidity metrics such as RWA (Risk Weighted Asset) and LCR (Liquidity Coverage Ratio).
  • Prototype, test, and operationalize dashboards, KPIs, and visualizations.
  • Develop agile metrics (e.g. sprint velocity, burndown, etc.) to contribute to oversight of BAU (business as usual) operations and increase agile maturity.
  • Support Root-Cause Problem Solving to help improve key business processes.
  • Investigate a business process and engage others in the organization, analyze systems, and identify and investigate bottlenecks/blocks.
  • Document and communicate findings with clarity and succinctness.
  • Work with Capital and Liquidity team members to devise, weigh, and implement solutions.
  • Engage business teams, critical data providers, and other Finance and Risk functions to find solutions and/or remediate issues with data for measurement and reporting within both Capital and Liquidity domains.
  • Contribute to Special Projects, applying creativity and special skills across data and business-oriented solutions, technical capabilities (such as AI/ML), insights, and analytical projects (such as data visualization and presentation).
