The Part-Time FAFSA Completion Specialist supports Central Carolina Community College’s efforts to increase college access, financial aid completion, and successful enrollment by providing direct FAFSA assistance to high school students and families. The position will work primarily in designated high schools, with an emphasis on students who have not completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or who need additional assistance completing financial aid requirements. The specialist will provide individualized FAFSA assistance, conduct workshops and outreach activities, help students understand financial aid next steps, and connect students with appropriate College resources. The position will work closely with CCCC Financial Aid, Secondary Partnerships, Admissions, Education Navigators, and high school personnel to identify students needing assistance and reduce financial barriers that may prevent students from enrolling in college.

Requirements

Associate degree from a regionally/institutionally accredited college or university.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills.
Ability to explain detailed processes clearly to students and families.
Ability to work independently in off-campus locations while maintaining strong communication with College staff.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students, families, educators, and community partners.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage follow-up with multiple students.
Basic proficiency with computers, web-based systems, email, and Microsoft Office or comparable applications.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive student information.
Ability to travel regularly to assigned high schools and other community locations.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree.
Experience in financial aid, admissions, advising, student services, college access, secondary education, or a related area.
Experience assisting students or families with FAFSA completion.
Knowledge of federal and North Carolina financial aid programs.
Experience working with high school students or first-generation college students.
Familiarity with community college admissions and enrollment processes.
Experience using Slate or another CRM/student information system.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills would be highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Establish a regular presence at assigned high schools and provide scheduled and drop-in FAFSA assistance to students.
Assist students and families with completing and submitting the FAFSA, including helping them understand the information and documentation needed to complete the application.
Help students identify and resolve incomplete FAFSA requirements and understand next steps following submission.
Provide general assistance related to financial aid processes, verification requirements, financial aid communications, and required documentation, referring more complex eligibility questions to CCCC Financial Aid staff when appropriate.
Conduct FAFSA completion workshops, information sessions, and other financial aid outreach activities for students and families.
Work with high school counselors, career development coordinators, CCCC Career and College Promise staff, and other school personnel to identify students who may need additional FAFSA support.
Conduct proactive outreach to students who have not completed the FAFSA or who have outstanding financial aid requirements.
Assist students in connecting FAFSA completion with the broader college enrollment process, including admissions, residency, advising, registration, scholarships, and other financial resources.
Refer students to appropriate CCCC offices and personnel when additional assistance is needed.
Maintain accurate records of student contacts, FAFSA assistance, workshops, referrals, and follow-up activities.
Document appropriate student interactions and outreach in Slate or other College systems as directed.
Coordinate regularly with CCCC Financial Aid and Student Engagement staff to identify trends, barriers, and opportunities for additional intervention.
Protect student and family information and comply with FERPA, College policies, and applicable financial aid confidentiality requirements.
Participate in training related to FAFSA changes, federal and state financial aid requirements, CCCC processes, and student-support resources.
Assist with evening FAFSA events, parent programs, registration events, or other outreach activities as needed.
Perform other related duties that support FAFSA completion, financial aid awareness, and successful student transition to CCCC.
