About The Position

The Harpeth Hall School seeks a Middle School science teacher to serve as a long-term substitute. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: Teach four sections of 8th grade physical science and chemistry with clarity, consistency, creativity, and joy. Execute lessons in accordance with school curriculum, evaluate student learning, communicate with parents, and manage all grading and other records. Generally oversee 8th grade science activities by managing 8th grade lab preparation, maintenance, and materials. Serve as advisor to a small group of middle school students. Participate in / facilitate extracurricular activities, enrichment programming, or clubs, as well as other community-building events. Engage actively with grade level colleagues to support students and families. Implement practices that foster the school’s values and a growth mindset in students. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator who is capable of teaching 8th grade science and who is willing and able to adjust and adapt to existing systems and procedures (technology, classroom routine, etc.) Additionally, applicants should understand the best way to engage and inspire middle-school-age girls. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, colleagues, and families is essential. Candidates with experience teaching science are given preference; a bachelor’s degree is required.
